Week 6 Module 6 Illustrate your influential person speech with slides.

Merriam Webster's Online Dictionary Defines Illustration as:

something that serves to illustrate (Links to an external site): such as

1. a picture or diagram that helps to make something clear or attractive.
2. an example or instance that helps make something clear.

In our course, we illustrate our ideas and our research to help our audiences understand and remember important aspects of our messages.

This week's graded illustration tasks

Open your completed influential person speech outline.

Use the Informative Speech Slide Template (Links to a Google document) to develop the slides that will illustrate your influential person speech.

Make sure to follow these rules:

Include a slide for each element of the outline.
Include the author, date, and publication name in the top corner of each slide where you will introduce a source (this will help you remember to state the source)
Include names of people and numbers you will need to remember--be creative here so it doesn't look like you are only putting these on the slide to remind you to say them.
Use large, emotion-provoking images.
Use high-resolution, non-pixelated images. Here's an article to help you find high-res images on google image search (Links to an external site).
Do not use images that are watermarked. What is a watermark? (Links to an external site)
When you include more than 1 image on a slide, introduce 1 image first, then the other (I create two slides to do this).
Limit the number of images on a slide. Usually, you should only include 1 large image on any slide.
Use 3 slides for your preview, use the same 3 slides for your review (see the sample slides (Links to a Google document) for an example)

To aid your work, review the sample speech slides (Links to a Google document).

Pay attention to the way the thesis statement and preview of main points use images that are repeated at the main points and in the review. These repeated images let you know where you are in the speech.

When your slides are complete, load them to Your influential person speech slide deck. (Links to a Canvas page)

This assignment will take 3-4 hours.

Think about your slides last (in other words, create your slides AFTER you have finished preparing the rest of the speech)
Create a consistent look and feel.
Think about topic transitions.
With text, less is almost always more (use slides to show, not to tell)
Use photos that enhance meaning.
Go easy on the effects and slide transitions.
Use masking to direct attention to images.
Try panning large images.
For video, don't use autoplay.
Reproduce simple charts and graphs.
